Busy Bias: Still for God

Updated: Jun 13

Dearly Beloved, welcome in.

It has been a while since I've written here.

This site and its much needed changes have been weighing on my mind.

Along with it, the Lord has been dealing with me in various matters.

But here I am Lord, ready and willing to occupy the office to which you have graciously called me.

Blessed be your holy name.

Now, for the matter at hand: the busy bias.

First, let us examine the definition of busy.

As adjective, meaning having a great deal to do.

As verb, meaning to keep occupied.

Not that any of us, in this day and age, really need a refresher of what busy actually means.

I must admit, it seems quite natural to equate being busy with achieving much, both for the kingdom of God and those we consider often mundane, worldly duties.

Though remember that it is written,

“But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.”
Luke 10:40-42 KJV

Beloved, we must be careful to not lose ourselves in the midst of the many things, the must-do things, the I'm responsible for things, the everyone's counting on me to do this things. In the whirlwind of morning and evening routines, we must remember to maintain, both at the front and back of our minds, our essential task as believers in the fold of His sheep. Maintaining diligently, always and in all ways the seeking first of His kingdom.

Yes, I'm washing dishes, but I'm seeking first His kingdom. Yes, I'm de-escalating an upset customer, but I'm seeking first His kingdom. Yes, I'm sleep deprived from tending all night to a terminally ill child, but I'm seeking first His kingdom.

All the while engaging in self-care activities, all the while seeking first His Kingdom. All the while studying for the upcoming midterm, all the while seeking first His Kingdom. All the while conversing quite amicably with a neighbor, all the while seeking first His Kingdom.

We know it is written that God is not the author of confusion.

As 1 Corinthians 14:33 KJV reads,

For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
And the thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.
John 10:10 KJV.

Beloved, let not the enemy of your soul snatch away from you the treasure stored up in heaven, that you might instead partake in his inheritance of sin, the wages of death, leading to perdition.

“But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:”
Matthew 6:20 KJV

None other but the Son of God, have come that you might indeed have life and have it more abundantly. Again, John 10:10 KJV.

In keeping with the foundations of our faith, let us follow in the footsteps of the perfect example found in Jesus Christ.

Let us set aside the busy bias of this age, mired in the guise of productivity, and dare to withdraw in solitude and her companion, silence.

Let the two have their perfect work in you, tiling a fertile meeting ground between Creator and creation.

God is here. He has always been here. Waiting. Waiting for you to slow down, hear him, see him, smell him, to touch him and spend time with him.Dwelling always and in all ways in His presence.

Regard him not to a specific time or place. There is no limit to the boundless nature of the Almighty.

He is everywhere, but your perceive him not.

He's holding your hand , but you perceive him not.

He's guiding your path , but you perceive him not.

He's overcome the world, including the world you carry on your shoulders, but you perceive him not.

Can you feel the heart of the Father?

Relegate him not only to the position of disciplinarian or angry ruler.

For both his rod and his staff, they comfort me.

Psalm 23:4 KJV

Be with your heart, become one with yourself, affirm your actuality, accept what is reality.

And in becoming one with yourself, speak aloud the confessions weighing heavy in your heart. Verbalize them not that you may change the Unchangeable One, but that you may in turn see yourself clearer. That you may, in essence, reveal yourself to your self. Knowing that the pursuit of God is the reacclimation of self to one's self. This religion of holiness leads to and is self discovery in the discovery of God.

Dear Merciful Father,

How grateful am I for the solitude and silence of spirit that enables one to constantly dwell in your healing presence. You are the strength and joy of my heart all the day long. Even in my dreams, my spirit soars, made bold and made tender by your holding of my hand. Lead me and teach me in the ways that I may please you. Mold me and show me just who I am in You. Although life can seem like a never- ending to-do list, I know that none can be done without you. I know that I cannot continue to pour from a cup that I have only half filled from the willpower found in my own strength. Give me courage to depend on you, and not the man in myself or the man in others, for all things. Teach me to revere the lonely places, as our Lord Jesus did, that I may find you and inquire of you what is that one, most precious will. Amen.
